Admission Restrictions for Visitors to the Dosojin Festival in 2024

October 25,2023

The Nozawa Onsen Dosojin Festival scheduled for January 15, 2024, will have the following restrictions on admission to the festival site.

1.Admission will be restricted to admission ticket holders only.

Admission tickets will be issued only to residents of Nozawa Onsen Village and guests staying in the village who wish to view the festival. (The method of distribution of admission tickets will be announced as soon as itfs determined.)

2.No beverages, including alcoholic beverages, will be allowed to be brought into the site.

Although the new classification of COVID-19 infection has been changed to category 5 and the number of people allowed to enter various events has been eased, the site has been very crowded and there have been concerns about the possibility of accidents occurring at the site, so the police have asked us to take measures to deal with the situation.
On October 29, 2022, a catastrophic accident occurred in Itaewon, Korea, killing 159 people. The Dosojin Festival site is located on a gentle slope toward the Great Shrine of Festival, and at last yearfs Dosojin Festival, admission was restricted to village residents and guests of the village, with tickets issued only to those who had stayed in the village. However, the number of visitors was approximately 4,800.
The Dosojin Festival has been designated as an Important Intangible Folk Culture Property by the national government, and while we would like visitors to freely view the traditional culture of the Dosojin Festival, if at all possible, we ask for your understanding and cooperation regarding the admission restrictions.
